About me

I'm Kenson.

I am a developer, community owner, streamer, dinosaur nerd, and the kind of person who can spend way too long tweaking a feature because one tiny part of it feels wrong.

Most of what I build starts with one of two thoughts:

"Why does this need to be so complicated?"

or:

"I could probably make a version of this that fits me better."

That is more or less how Pryven happened.

I like software that respects people

A lot of modern software assumes everything should live in the cloud, every useful feature should require an account, and every app should eventually become a subscription.

I do not really like that direction.

For my own projects, I try to lean toward:

  • offline-first design where it makes sense;
  • local data instead of automatically sending everything somewhere else;
  • accessibility as part of the actual product, not an afterthought;
  • useful free versions;
  • one-time purchases for features that do not actually require an ongoing service;
  • subscriptions mainly when there is a real ongoing cost, like cloud sync.

Basically, I want software to feel like something you own and use — not something that is constantly trying to upsell you.

Dinosaurs are absolutely going to sneak into things

I have been into dinosaurs for a long time.

I am not going to pretend I am a paleontologist, because I am definitely not, but I enjoy learning about prehistoric life and sharing that interest with other people.

That is a big part of why Mesozoic Haven exists.

It also means you may occasionally notice a slightly Jurassic-looking heading, a fossil joke, or some other dinosaur-adjacent detail around this site.

I promise I am showing restraint.

Probably.

What I do

My main projects right now are:

  • Pryven — privacy-friendly productivity software;
  • Mesozoic Haven — my dinosaur and prehistoric-life community;
  • Kenson Labs — experiments and smaller projects that do not need their own giant website.

This site ties all of that together.
